Summary
The Delivery Driver is responsible for the safe and timely delivery of customer orders, including finished products and materials, using company delivery vehicles. This role also supports warehouse and production operations as needed, particularly when driving duties are limited. The Delivery Driver ensures compliance with all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and company policies while providing professional and courteous service to customers and maintaining accurate delivery documentation.
Primary Responsibilities
- Operate company vehicles (delivery vans to straight box trucks) to deliver products to customers within assigned delivery routes, including occasional overnight routes.
- Provide excellent customer service by conducting timely, professional, and courteous deliveries.
- Load and unload merchandise at customer sites using lift gates, pallet jacks, and other material handling equipment.
- Assist in warehouse operations when not assigned to driving duties, including loading trucks, inventory cycle counts, housekeeping, picking, receiving, and supporting production as needed.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and promptly report any maintenance or safety issues.
- Ensure full compliance with federal and state motor carrier safety regulations and all DOT requirements.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members regarding route updates, safety concerns, or equipment issues.
- Promote a cooperative and respectful work environment by supporting coworkers and assisting in other areas as business needs require.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support overall distribution and operational goals.
Required Skills & Abilities
- Knowledge of DOT safety and transportation regulation.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Effective communication skills and a customer-focused attitude.
- Ability to accurately maintain logs and documentation using tablets, ELDs, or other mobile logistics applications.
- Familiarity with local delivery routes and ability to follow driving directions or use GPS navigation.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
- Dependability, punctuality, and professionalism.
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Minimum of two (2) years of delivery driving experience required.
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
- Must pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screen and background check.
- Experience in the glass, construction, or related manufacturing industry preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
- Frequent walking, standing, bending, and reaching during loading/unloading activities.
- Ability to safely operate delivery vehicles and material handling equipment.
- Willingness to work flexible or extended hours based on delivery schedules and business needs.
- Tolerance for variable weather conditions during loading, delivery, or transit.
