Position Summary

The Shipping Manager is a key member of the Madera Plant leadership team and is responsible for the safe, efficient, and accurate shipping and receiving of Florestone products to customers throughout California and the United States. This role provides strategic and day-to-day leadership for outbound shipping, warehouse organization, and receiving operations.

The Shipping Manager directly manages a Shipping Supervisor and leads a shipping team of five or more employees. This role is accountable for safety performance, operational efficiency, inventory accuracy, and on-time shipment execution while driving continuous improvement across the department.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Management

  • Lead, coach, and develop the Shipping Supervisor and shipping team members, fostering a culture of accountability, safety, and continuous improvement.
  • Establish clear expectations, provide regular feedback, and support performance management and employee development.
  • Promote a performance-based culture aligned with Florestone and American Bath Group values.

Safety & Compliance

  • Own the safety performance of the shipping and warehouse operations.
  • Ensure all safety procedures are followed and conduct regular audits for compliance.
  • Lead by example in maintaining a safe work environment and complying with all Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) regulations, policies, and procedures.

Operations & Execution

  • Oversee all outbound shipments, including order picking, staging, truck loading, load sequencing, and accessory verification.
  • Ensure all shipments are completed accurately and depart by established target times.
  • Coordinate daily with production, scheduling, shipping expeditors, and logistics teams to manage priorities, including "hot units" and backorders.
  • Partner with logistics to optimize trailer utilization, including add-to-load processes.
  • Ensure warehouses are organized, labeled, and maintained according to standard storage and material handling practices.

Performance Management & KPIs

  • Track, analyze, and report shipping and warehouse KPIs.
  • Conduct daily performance reviews and communicate results versus goals.
  • Take ownership of performance gaps by developing and executing corrective action plans.

Inventory & Systems

  • Ensure all system transactions and shipping documentation are accurate, complete, and timely.
  • Conduct shipping audits at established frequencies.
  • Lead monthly physical inventory counts of finished goods using established inventory tag processes.
  • Maintain strong inventory control and accuracy across warehouse and shipping operations.

Continuous Improvement

  • Partner with plant and business leaders to identify and implement process improvements.
  • Lead and support change initiatives that improve safety, quality, delivery, and cost.
  • Leverage best practices and operational excellence tools to drive sustainable results.

Additional

  • Expanded KPI section to include distribution-relevant metrics such as OTIF, order accuracy, freight cost per unit, inventory accuracy, and dock-to-stock cycle time.
  • Reinforced corrective action ownership for performance gaps
  • Included responsibility for monitoring freight spend, detention, and accessorial charges.
  • Added freight claims and damage investigation responsibilities.
  • Added responsibility for warehouse layout, slotting strategies, and space optimization.
  • Included partnership with operations and maintenance on material handling equipment needs.
  • Other duties as assigned by direct manager.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in shipping, warehouse, or logistics operations within a manufacturing environment (preferred).
  • Prior leadership experience managing supervisors and hourly teams.
  • Strong problem-solving, troubleshooting, and decision-making skills.
  • Working knowledge of GMP, safe work practices, and warehouse safety standards.
  • Experience with MRP systems preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Smartsheet, and Outlook.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate across departments.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this role, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, vibration, fumes, or airborne particles. The employee may occasionally be exposed to varying environmental conditions. The noise level in the manufacturing and warehouse environment can be loud.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those required to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. This role is active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing throughout the day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items over 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Reporting Relationship

The Shipping Manager reports directly to the Madera Plant Manager.

Location & Travel

This position is based at the Florestone facility in Madera, California. Occasional travel to other company facilities may be required and is expected to be less than 10%.
