Position Summary
The Industrial Electrician is responsible for installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting electrical systems and industrial equipment within a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This role ensures the safe and reliable operation of plant machinery while minimizing downtime through preventive maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs.
The ideal Industrial Electrician is safety-focused, self-motivated, and experienced in PLC troubleshooting, VFD programming, and industrial electrical systems.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Install, maintain, and repair industrial electrical wiring, control systems, motors, panels, and equipment.
- Troubleshoot and program VFDs (Variable Frequency Drives) and PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers).
- Perform diagnostics using voltmeters, ohmmeters, oscilloscopes, and other electrical testing equipment.
- Conduct preventive maintenance inspections to reduce downtime and increase equipment reliability.
- Respond quickly to electrical failures and production equipment malfunctions.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, repair logs, and parts inventory documentation.
- Collaborate with maintenance teams, production staff, and engineering personnel.
- Identify safety risks and implement corrective actions.
- Follow all OSHA guidelines, electrical codes, and lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures.
- Safely operate forklifts, lifts, and industrial equipment when required.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by Maintenance leadership.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong understanding of industrial electrical systems and troubleshooting techniques.
- Experience with PLC controls, VFD systems, motors, and automated production equipment.
- Ability to read electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals.
- Familiarity with lubrication systems and basic mechanical repair concepts.
- Ability to work in hot, cold, dusty, or high-noise manufacturing environments.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent teamwork and communication abilities.
- Self-starter with strong time management and reliability.
- Ability to obtain and maintain forklift certification.
Physical Requirements & Work Environment
- Frequent exposure to industrial electrical and mechanical equipment.
- Work in varying temperatures, elevated areas, and around moving machinery.
- Regular standing, walking, climbing, bending, kneeling, crouching, and fine motor use.
- Ability to lift:
- Up to 49 lbs. routinely
- Up to 100 lbs. occasionally
- Over 100 lbs. with assistance
Qualifications
Candidates must meet one of the following:
- Four (4) years of progressively responsible journey-level electrical experience; OR
- Completion of a four-year federally approved electrical apprenticeship program and two (2) years of experience; OR
- Equivalent combination of education and industrial electrical experience.
Additional Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Successful completion of background check, drug screening, and work assessment.
