Position Overview

The Buyer is responsible for planning, purchasing, and managing raw materials, MRO supplies, and specialty items to support manufacturing operations at Coastal Shower Doors. This Buyer position works closely with the Scheduler, Purchasing Manager, operations teams, and other ABG buyers to ensure material availability, inventory accuracy, and cost control.

This role plays a critical part in maintaining production continuity while driving standardization and supply chain efficiency across ABG facilities. A successful Buyer will balance cost control, supplier performance, and production support in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Primary Responsibilities

Purchasing & Material Planning

  • Plan and order raw materials and MRO supplies using forecasting, kanban, min/max systems, cycle count data, and historical usage.
  • Process special purchase requests in accordance with approved requisitions.
  • Review past-due reports to proactively identify and prevent material shortages.
  • Assess vendor ship dates and coordinate deliveries to meet production and customer timelines.
  • Enter daily material receipts and maintain accurate ERP system data.

Inventory Management

  • Participate in inventory cycle count activities.
  • Monitor and reconcile inventory adjustments within the ERP system.
  • Understand how inventory discrepancies impact purchasing decisions.
  • Support stocking programs and maintain accurate part data.

Vendor Management & Data Analysis

  • Maintain strong supplier relationships in alignment with ABG Ethics Policy.
  • Assist in resolving vendor performance issues.
  • Gather, analyze, and report purchasing data to support negotiations and cost control.
  • Follow contract pricing and purchasing guidelines.
  • Support standardization of raw materials and purchasing processes across ABG facilities.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Communicate daily with Scheduler and Purchasing Manager regarding material risks.
  • Work closely with operations and other ABG buyers to improve procurement practices.
  • Provide direction to team members regarding purchasing and inventory processes when required.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Knowledge of purchasing and procurement fundamentals.
  • Understanding of manufacturing and lean production processes.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • ERP experience preferred.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • High level of professionalism, integrity, and accountability.
