About the Role

The Production Manager is responsible for overall production performance, workforce leadership, and operational execution across the manufacturing floor. This role oversees supervisors and production teams, ensures production goals are met, and drives safety, quality, efficiency, and cost control initiatives. The Production Manager plays a critical role in shaping plant culture, improving processes, and delivering consistent operational results.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage all daily production operations to ensure safety, quality, efficiency, and on-time delivery.
  • Direct, coach, and develop production supervisors and frontline leadership to maximize performance and engagement.
  • Plan and manage staffing, production schedules, and workflow to meet operational and customer objectives.
  • Enforce compliance with standard operating procedures (SOPs), production standards, and safety policies.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to increase throughput, reduce waste, and improve operational consistency.
  • Establish accountability through performance expectations, coaching, and corrective action when necessary.
  • Ensure a strong safety culture through training, inspections, audits, and proactive risk mitigation.
  • Track, analyze, and report key performance indicators (KPIs) including output, efficiency, downtime, scrap, and labor utilization.
  • Partner cross-functionally with Maintenance, Quality, Engineering, and Supply Chain to improve equipment reliability and overall effectiveness.
  • Oversee proper use, care, and basic maintenance of production equipment; ensure issues are identified and escalated promptly.
  • Lead problem-solving efforts related to production delays, quality issues, and equipment downtime.

Required Skills & Abilities

  • Strong leadership, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to analyze production data, identify trends, and implement effective solutions.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience with manufacturing or ERP systems.
  • Solid understanding of machinery operation, production planning, and preventative maintenance practices.
  • Excellent communication, team-building, and change-management skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of manufacturing leadership experience, including supervision of supervisors or teams.
  • Prior experience managing production operations in a manufacturing environment required.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to production equipment and materials.
  • Prolonged standing and walking throughout the facility.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally.
