Position Overview
The Pattern Specilalist plays a critical role in new product development and mold fabrication by building, modifying, and repairing master patterns used in production molds.
This position directly impacts:

If you have experience in pattern making, tooling, mold fabrication, composites, fiberglass, woodworking, or precision machining, this is a high-impact role within our manufacturing operation.
What You Will Do
Pattern Fabrication & Development
- Interpret CAD files, blueprints, and engineering drawings.
- Construct master patterns using wood, foam, fiberglass, resin, and composite materials.
- Shape, sand, fill, and finish surfaces to meet dimensional and cosmetic specifications.
- Perform layout work and precision measurement using calipers, micrometers, and hand tools.
- Ensure all patterns meet CTQs (Critical to Quality requirements).
Tooling & Mold Support
- Collaborate with engineering and tooling teams during pattern-to-mold transitions.
- Modify patterns to support design updates and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Repair and restore existing master models.
- Validate dimensional tolerances prior to mold fabrication.
Quality & Continuous Improvement
- Inspect patterns for dimensional accuracy and surface integrity.
- Maintain documentation of revisions and updates.
- Identify design-for-manufacturability (DFM) improvements.
- Support new product launches and engineering development efforts.
Safety & Shop Operations
- Follow all ABG safety policies and proper material handling procedures.
- Maintain clean, organized work areas.
- Safely operate shop equipment including saws, routers, sanders, and CNC equipment (if applicable).
Required Skills & Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in pattern making, mold building, tooling, or composite manufacturing.
- Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints and CAD drawings.
- Experience working with fiberglass, tooling resin, composite materials, or similar.
- High attention to detail and craftsmanship.
- Proficiency with precision measuring tools.
- Strong problem-solving and collaboration skills.
- Ability to visualize 3D shapes from 2D drawings.
Preferred Experience
- Technical training in pattern making, woodworking, machining, or tooling.
- Experience in bathware, marine, aerospace composites, plastics, or thermoforming manufacturing.
- CNC exposure is a plus.
Work Environment
- Manufacturing and tool shop setting.
- Frequent standing, bending, and lifting (up to 50 lbs).
- Exposure to dust, resins, and industrial materials.
- Regular use of hand and power tools.
