Position Summary

The Mold Shop Supervisor is a hands-on technical leader responsible for restoring control, urgency, and measurable progress in the mold shop. This position plans and directs new mold construction, mold repair, refurbishment, preventive maintenance, and mold improvement work so Production has safe, reliable, production-ready molds when needed. The supervisor owns daily priorities, workmanship, employee development, documentation, housekeeping, and completion of the established weekly mold schedule.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

· Lead the mold shop as a working supervisor; establish daily priorities, assign work, monitor progress throughout the shift, and verify that completed work meets Florestone standards before release.

· Create and maintain a visible mold-shop schedule covering new molds, repairs, preventive maintenance, production requests, due dates, assigned owners, and completion status.

· Meet the established weekly mold completion and hanging schedule, currently targeted at two molds per week, while responding to urgent production needs without losing control of planned work.

· Direct and participate in mold construction, repair, refurbishment, modification, surface preparation, polishing, gelcoat, fiberglass layup, reinforcement, hardware installation, and related tooling work.

· Inspect molds before release for correct dimensions, surface finish, flanges, structural integrity, reinforcement, hardware, pins, hangers, and overall production readiness.

· Maintain an accurate mold inventory and condition system, including mold location and clear status identification such as Ready, In Repair, Hold, or Out of Service.

· Develop preventive-maintenance standards and inspection frequencies to reduce mold failures, product defects, emergency repairs, and production downtime.

· Identify the root cause of recurring mold damage or product defects and coordinate permanent corrective action with Production, Quality, Maintenance, and other support teams.

· Immediately communicate missing materials, parts, measurements, drawings, access, labor, or technical decisions that could delay a job; provide a recommended solution and revised completion date.

· Train, coach, and cross-train mold shop employees in safe work practices, mold-building and repair techniques, quality standards, equipment use, documentation, and housekeeping expectations.

· Set clear expectations, address poor performance promptly, recognize strong work, and hold employees accountable for safety, attendance, quality, productivity, and completion of assigned work.

· Enforce all plant safety requirements, including PPE, chemical handling, SDS, Lockout/Tagout, lifting and rigging, forklift and aerial-lift operation, machine guarding, and safe storage of molds and materials.

· Maintain the mold shop, outside mold areas, tools, equipment, and storage locations in a clean, labeled, safe, and organized condition; correct unstable, leaning, or improperly stored molds immediately.

· Control material usage, scrap, supplies, labor hours, and overtime; identify practical opportunities to improve cost, mold life, workflow, and shop capacity.

· Provide accurate daily and weekly status updates, including completed work, jobs behind schedule, or quality concerns, and the recovery plan for missed commitments.

· Support plant shutdown work, improvement projects, and other duties needed to protect safety, quality, delivery, and production continuity.

Required Skills & Qualifications

· Minimum two years of hands-on experience in FRP/composite mold making, industrial tooling, pattern work, or closely related mold construction and repair; strong FRP experience is highly preferred.

· Minimum two years of lead or supervisory experience with demonstrated success improving team output, workmanship, and accountability.

· Strong working knowledge of gelcoat, resin, fiberglass reinforcement, mold surfaces, release systems, structural repairs, finishing, polishing, and safe composite-material handling.

· Ability to diagnose mold-related defects and failures, determine root cause, and develop a practical repair or improvement plan.

· Ability to read drawings, sketches, specifications, and measurements and use standard measuring tools accurately.

· Strong planning and follow-through; able to manage planned work, urgent repairs, labor, materials, and competing production priorities without losing visibility or control.

· Basic computer skills and the ability to maintain schedules, records, work requests, mold history, and performance information accurately.

· Clear communication and leadership skills; able to give direction, coach employees, coordinate across departments, and escalate problems early.

· High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training in composites, tooling, manufacturing, or a related field is preferred.

· Ability to safely operate or obtain company certification for forklifts, hoists, and aerial lifts as required. Bilingual English/Spanish communication is preferred.

Physical Requirements

Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and perform the bending, reaching, climbing, pushing, pulling, lifting, and material-handling activities normally required in an industrial mold shop. Must be able to safely work around resins, gelcoats, fiberglass, dust, chemicals, molds, tools, forklifts, hoists, elevated work, and production equipment while wearing required PPE and using mechanical assistance when required.

Key Performance Expectations

· Weekly mold schedule completed, including the current target of two molds hung per week

· Production-ready molds available when required, with urgent needs clearly prioritized

· Repair and new-mold backlog controlled with owners, due dates, status, and recovery plans

· Completed work verified for dimensional accuracy, structural integrity, finish, and safe use

· Reduction in repeat repairs, mold-related defects, emergency work, and avoidable downtime

· Accurate mold inventory, condition status, work records, and completion reporting

· Safe, clean, labeled, and organized mold shop and mold-storage areas

· Employees trained, productive, accountable, and capable of performing work to standard

Ownership and follow-through are critical. The Mold Shop Supervisor is expected to know the status of every priority job, remove or escalate obstacles early, verify completed work, and deliver measurable weekly progress. Work is not considered complete until it is safe, documented, checked, and ready for use.

Pay: $22.00 - $26.00 per hour
