Position Overview
Swan Surfaces is seeking a reliable CDL Driver / Yard Spotter to support daily plant and yard operations. This position is responsible for safely moving trailers between dock doors and designated yard locations, assisting with equipment moves, and collaborating with plant teams to maintain a clean, organized, and safe back pad and yard area.
Trailer Movement and Yard Operations
Safely operate a yard spotter truck to move and position trailers at dock doors and designated areas on company property.
Coordinate trailer movements with shipping, warehouse, and production teams to support timely loading and unloading.
Safely couple and uncouple trailers, connect and disconnect air lines, and operate landing gear as needed.
Conduct pre-use and end-of-shift vehicle inspections; promptly report damage, mechanical issues, and unsafe conditions.
Follow company procedures for trailer securement, dock positioning, pedestrian awareness, and safe vehicle operation.
Maintain accurate trailer location information and communicate trailer availability and movement needs.
Equipment Moving and Back Pad Cleanup
Assist maintenance, production, and warehouse teams with moving and staging equipment, materials, and other plant items as directed.
Operate forklifts or other material-handling equipment only after completing required training and receiving company authorization.
Collaborate with plant teams on back pad cleanup, including collecting debris, organizing pallets and materials, and placing waste in designated containers.
Keep trailer parking areas, dock approaches, traffic lanes, walkways, and equipment access routes clear.
Identify and report hazards, spills, damaged equipment, and other conditions requiring attention.
General Responsibilities
Assist with loading, unloading, and other warehouse or plant support tasks as needed.
Follow company safety procedures, wear required personal protective equipment, and comply with applicable vehicle-operation requirements.
Communicate effectively with coworkers and supervisors to coordinate priorities and complete work safely and efficiently.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) appropriate for the equipment operated.
Experience operating a yard spotter truck, tractor-trailer, or similar equipment preferred.
Ability to safely back, maneuver, and position trailers in a manufacturing yard.
Knowledge of safe vehicle operation, trailer handling, and vehicle inspection practices.
Strong attention to detail, dependability, and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Ability to follow instructions and adjust priorities based on plant needs.
Forklift or other material-handling equipment experience preferred.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
Ability to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Ability to lift and move materials weighing up to 50 pounds, using appropriate assistance or equipment as needed.
Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods; climb into and out of vehicles; and bend, reach, push, and pull while performing assigned tasks.
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and in a manufacturing environment with vehicle traffic, noise, and uneven surfaces.
Pay: $18.00 - $25.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40.0 – 50.0 per week
