AKER by MAAX is hiring Spray Technicians (Gunner / Chopper Operators) for our Martinsburg manufacturing team. This is skilled, hands-on production work using specialized spray equipment to apply gelcoat, polyester resin and catalyst to molds while controlling coverage, quality and consistency. Starting pay is $25.00/hour, with a path to $27.00/hour as you qualify, demonstrate standard work and build sustained proficiency in the role.

What You'll Do

As a Spray Technician, you will operate specialized spray equipment to apply gelcoat, resin and catalyst materials to molds. Your technique directly influences coating coverage, product quality, material use, rework and the consistency of the finished bathware product.

Apply Materials to Standard

  • Operate spray guns and related equipment to apply polyester resin, catalyst and gelcoat materials to molds.
  • Follow role-specific standard work, production instructions and model-specific spray sequences.
  • Control spray distance, angle, overlap, travel speed and material coverage to meet quality requirements.
  • Maintain proper coating thickness and consistent application without excessive buildup, misses or avoidable overspray.

Inspect, Correct and Protect Quality

  • Inspect sprayed surfaces for coverage, color, thickness, consistency and visible defects.
  • Correct process issues within the approved work window and communicate conditions that require lead or quality support.
  • Protect molds and product surfaces from contamination, improper application or handling damage.
  • Complete required production, material or quality checks as assigned.

Maintain Equipment + Safe Work Practices

  • Clean spray guns, hoses, nozzles and related tools at the required frequency.
  • Perform routine equipment checks and report mechanical, pressure, catalyst or application issues promptly.
  • Follow chemical-handling, ventilation, housekeeping, waste-control and spill-reporting requirements.
  • Wear all required PPE and follow respiratory-protection requirements at all times.

Skilled Spray / Coating Work

Experience in industrial painting, automotive finishing, powder coating, fiberglass, composites, gelcoat or other spray-application work can translate well to this role. We are looking for people who can learn the MAAX process, repeat a controlled technique, recognize defects and deliver consistent quality.

As you demonstrate safe execution, spray quality, standard-work adherence, consistent production rate and sustained performance, you can progress toward the higher end of the Spray Technician pay range.

What We're Looking For

  • Dependable attendance and ability to work the assigned schedule
  • Previous manufacturing, industrial painting, fiberglass/composites, automotive finishing, powder coat or spray-application experience preferred
  • Ability to follow detailed safety, chemical-handling, quality and standardized-work instructions
  • Strong attention to color, shading, coverage, thickness and visible defects
  • Ability to learn and consistently repeat controlled spray technique and model-specific sequences
  • Basic math/measurement skills and ability to read labels, work orders and quality standards
  • High school diploma or GED preferred
